Resources

Understanding the role that entheogens can play in improving our lives is a complex study of drug interactions, drug policy, enthnobotany, environmental conservation and indigenous culture and rights. We’ve curated and organized a number of online resources and organizations that we think are doing an excellent job of providing balanced information to the general public as well as pioneering research that shows promising results and merits deeper studies.

Many entheogens are considered to be illegal drugs in many countries, even though they may be plant-based medicines with a long history of cultural use and healing applications.

We do not encourage or condone the use of any illegal substance. However, we are completely aware that the legality or illegality of these substances has never stopped the population from engaging in the use of them. We thought it was of the utmost  importance  to  create include in our resource page several websites that can help you make an informed personal decision on your self-medication or exploration.

If you are here it is safe to say that you may be  thinking  of trying an alternative drug or plant based medicine. If you are planning on or already using mind altering  substances it is imperative that you become familiar with every facet of the substance  you plan on ingesting or have already ingested. There are real dangers associated with many of these drugs, especially combinations of drugs that may have deadly contraindications. Many combinations have simply never been studied.

Becoming familiar with benefits and dangers of these drugs may very well save you from experiencing a psychotic episode or possibly even save your life. Mixing certain prescription drugs or even food and drinks with some psychedelics can have adverse or even fatal consequences. So, it is best to stay informed  to remain safe, sane and alive. The goal of these pages is, realistic drug policy reform as well as harm reduction through education. Each group is well qualified in their respective fields.

In addition, we encourage you to explore some of the controversy around the use and study of entheogenic substances, as well as the cultures that hold visionary plant medicines to be sacred. The destruction of rainforests, the erosion of native cultures, the passing of elders with deep knowledge of plants and their healing properties are all factors that need to be urgently addressed if we hope to have continue to benefit from the wisdom of these ways.

Singing to the Plants

In the Upper Amazon, mestizos are the Spanish-speaking descendants of Hispanic colonizers and the indigenous peoples of the jungle. Some mestizos have migrated to Amazon towns and cities, such as Iquitos and Pucallpa; most remain in small villages, their houses perched on stilts on the shores of the rivers that are their primary means of travel. Here in the jungle, they have retained features of the Hispanic tradition, including a folk Catholicism and traditional Hispanic medicine. And they have incorporated much of the religious tradition of the Amazon, especially its healing, sorcery, shamanism, and the use of potent plant hallucinogens, including Ayahuasca.

The result is a uniquely eclectic shamanist culture that continues not only to fascinate outsiders with its brilliant visionary art but also to attract thousands of seekers each year with the promise of visionary experiences of their own.

Singing to the Plants sets forth, in accessible form, just what this shamanism is about — what happens at an Ayahuasca  healing ceremony, how the apprentice shaman forms a spiritual relationship with the healing plant spirits, how sorcerers inflict the harm that the shaman heals, and the ways that plants are used in healing, love magic, and sorcery.
