3 Otherworldly Changa Recipes You Can Make At Home!

Changa is a relatively recent invention: a smoking combination that mimics the effects of ayahuasca without requiring you to sit through an hours-long ceremony that includes purging and nausea.

To make a basic changa mix, simply combine DMT (dimethyltryptamine) and a plant that contains MAOIs (monoamine oxidase inhibitors). Because the MAOIs help it linger longer in the body, smoking DMT in a changa blend provides a psychedelic experience that lasts longer than smoking pure freebase crystal.

But some people want something more than this. The ability to add other plants to the mixture means that you can, if you want to, combine the intense psychedelic introspection of ayahuasca with other psychoactive plants.

This means you can create changa blends that give you an intense, alien, interdimensional experience!

We’ve compiled three of the most otherworldly changa blends, designed to blast you off into the deepest changa space.

What Every Changa Recipe Needs

Pure DMT must be extracted from a DMT-containing plant and dissolved in a solvent before being added to your smoking blend. This is the case for all changa recipes.

Get our free PDF guide for more extensive instructions on how to extract DMT from plants and produce changa!

Isopropyl alcohol or pure acetone are common solvent choices for DMT crystals. Use as little solvent as possible – roughly 10ml should suffice for 250mg of DMT.

Dissolve your DMT in the solvent in a small dish. The fastest way to do this is if your solvent is warm, but take caution as solvents are typically highly flammable. The safest way to lightly heat your solvent is by floating your shallow dish which contains the solvent in a container of hot water.

As soon as your DMT has dissolved, add your changa plant mixture to the DMT solution and thoroughly soak the leaves. Then all you have to do is let your changa mixture dry so that the solvent evaporates and the DMT can migrate into the plants. The mixture may take a few days to completely dry.

Weigh your final combination to ensure that everything worked well. It should weigh 1.25g if you added 250mg of DMT to a total of 1g of plant material.

To figure out how much DMT to use in your plant mix, use this chart:

Now all you need is a smoking mixture to which you’ll add your DMT solution! Each formula yields 1 gram of plant material, to which you just add your preferred DMT dosage.

Recipe 1: Lucid Dream

This changa recipe combines a number of herbs with dream-inducing qualities, for a deep and otherworldly experience.

This mixture may not be for you if you’re looking for a sharp and clean changa trip… but if you love the feel of being in a dense and viscous dream-state, try out this recipe!

First, mix these dried plants, ground up to a smokable consistency:

  • 400mg Banisteriopsis caapi (available here)
  • 200mg Mexican Dream Herb (Calea zacatechichi, available here)
  • 200mg Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris)
  • 200mg African Dream Herb (Silene capensis)

Then add your DMT solution, at the chosen concentration (see chart above), and make sure it soaks into the plants and dries completely.

Once completely dry, you’re ready to smoke and dive deep into dream space!

Recipe 2: Head Trip

This changa recipe uses uniquely activating plants to give you a seriously cerebral experience.

Your experience with the Head Trip recipe will have an invigorating background buzz due to the THC-like effects of Lion’s Tail. The Yopo seeds, which contain both DMT and 5-MeO-DMT, will contribute a heady spiciness to the trip. Finally the combination of Skullcap and Damiana Leaf wraps it all up in a mellow come-down to soothe your potentially frazzled nervous system.

First, grind up these quantities of dried plant materials, and mix them together:

Then add your chosen concentration of DMT, wait until the plant mixture has totally soaked it all up and completely dried, then smoke and enjoy!

Recipe 3: Salvia Synergy

This one’s for the hardcore psychonauts. Salvia divinorum on its own is an intimidating and powerful psychedelic; when combined with DMT in a changa mix, it can be seriously intense.

We recommend starting with plain Salvia leaf. However, if you’re a seasoned salvianaut, you could use extracts instead.

The Mullein in this mixture helps to reduce the harshness of the smoke, which Salvia can make particularly unpleasant.

First, mix together your dried and ground-up plant ingredients, to make the smoking mix:

  • 400mg Banisteriopsis caapi (available here)
  • 400mg Salvia divinorum
  • 200mg Mullein

Then add your desired concentration of DMT to the mix, and make sure it dries completely.

Finally, smoke and enjoy! As with full Salvia experiences, make sure you have a sober sitter with you and aren’t surrounded by any sharp of harmful objects, as Salvia can make you lose control of your movements.

How to Smoke Changa

Changa is a strong psychedelic, so it’s a good idea to follow all the standard psychedelic usage guidelines. You should be well-prepared and your environment should be as safe as possible. For best results, bring a sober trip sitter with you.

Start with minimal doses of changa if you’re a beginner. You can smoke the mix in a bong, pipe, or joint. It may take several hits to feel the effects.

Storing Your Changa

Changa can be stored for several months if kept very dry. Ensure that it is stored in an airtight container. Take the lid off after a few days to test whether you can smell any solvent – if you can, it requires more time to dry before being sealed again.

Changa should be kept in a cool, dark place. It’s critical that the temperature remains stable, which is why some people store it in the refrigerator or freezer. It’s recommended to freeze it to preserve the DMT if you’re storing it for more than a few months.

Experiment With New Recipes!

With so many possible plant combinations, changa is a really exciting psychedelic to experiment with.

You can try out different plants by swapping them out with the ones listed and see where they take you. Keep in mind, though, that if you replace B. caapi with other MAOI-containing plants, they may have varied alkaloid concentrations, so you might need to adjust the dosages to maintain the same MAOI content.

Infusing Your Alcohol for More Flavor

If you want to add an extra special touch to your changa mix, you can infuse the alcohol with additional flavors before using it to dissolve the DMT.

Simply combine some aromatic herbs or plants with your isopropyl alcohol or acetone in a sealed container, shake well, and store in a cool, dark place for a few days. Every day, give the jar a good shake to ensure that the flavors are being infused.

Herbs like lavender and mint are popular for flavoring alcoholic beverages to give them a floral and fresh taste. You can also play with different aromas such as fruit or spices.

Once your infusion is ready, proceed to the next phase in the changa process: dissolve your DMT in your flavored alcohol, then add your smoking blend to the solvent and let it dry. Be creative and you may end up with a changa with a totally original aroma!
