The god of the blue lotus in ancient Egypt was Nefertem. He brought the lotus to the sun god Ra to soothe the aches and pains of his old body. The ancient Egyptians appreciated the flower not only for its pleasant scent, but also for its healing qualities. Many Egyptian images show women holding the flower, smelling its divine fragrance. Today it is believed that the plant was also used as a recreational drug (steeped in wine).

    Effects

The effects of blue lotus are narcotic and euphoric, like those of cannabis or codeine, becoming slightly hallucinogenic at higher doses. The plant is also said to increase desire and improve sexuality, and to have a similar effect to Viagra.

    Use

To make tea, steep 5 grams per person in hot water. For a traditional Egyptian drink, steep the flowers in wine for several hours. Use approximately 5 grams per carafe. Do not exceed the recommended dose: blue lotus makes the wine bitter and difficult to drink.
