Kratom

Kratom is a plant that grows across Southeast Asia, and has been used traditionally for its euphoric, painkilling, and stimulating properties. Although kratom activates opioid receptors, it is a unique plant in that it has different effects at different doses. At low doses it is said to improve focus and have a stimulating effect; while at higher doses it can impart sedation, euphoria, and analgesia.

In its most popular form, kratom is supplied as dried powder which can be brewed into a tea, swallowed directly, or divided into capsules. People report using it to replace other more harmful pain medications, or help them wean off other recreational drugs. Some use it to overcome social anxiety, or as a sexual stimulant.

Although kratom has some addictive potential, people can minimize the risks by avoiding taking it every day, and alternating between different strains.
