How to Create an Online Mystery School with Elayne Kalila Doughty

Through embodiment practices and devoted service, the temple inspires women to unleash their leadership gifts and step into their full potential.
In the interview below, Kalila talks about her own experiences setting up an online business, and how you can also share your sacred purpose with a receptive and enthusiastic audience.
Kalila’s school was developed as a way for people to discover the authentic expression of their personal essence – no longer hiding behind costumes, and finding the true self with purpose and joy.
To create your own mystery school, Kalila encourages stepping into the mystery yourself! To share your own purpose or transformative process with the world, you must also constantly be sitting in that purpose, and transforming yourself alongside it. Allow your offerings transform you as much as you’re seeking to transform others – you must be changed by your own business!
Kalila suggests helping people navigate through your school, rather than just throwing them in the deep end and expecting them to find what they need. Part of this is offering many low-cost or free offerings so that your school is available to everyone, regardless of financial situation. It’s also worth exploring ‘pay what you can’ systems, so you can still benefit from having lots of support from those who can afford it.
On the question of what offerings to create for your business, Kalila offers a three step process:
- Listen to the culture – what are the current trends, and what ways are people seeking to transform?
- Ask questions – find out from your audience what they are struggling with, and what they’re looking for;
- Develop content that is needed by the culture, and that helps to address your audience’s needs.
Kalila also offers some advice that was hard for her to accept at first – make content that can be repurposed! Don’t be afraid of other people using your teachings and being able to spread them further afield. Your mission should be to share your sacred purpose, not guard it jealously.

Finally, Kalila suggests making offerings that people will want to talk about! You want your mystery school to be so revolutionary and helpful that people will talk to their friends about it, and become lifetime audience members.
